19-10-2014                             ABINGDON UTD  3  v  CUMNOR MINORS  4

This was always going to be a tough game and a real test of character for the boys!!

The game started with Cumnor having the better of the early exchanges and going close on a couple of times, but it was Abingdon who took the lead when a corner was headed powerfully in the net, two minutes later and when Cumnor failed to clear the ball from the box Abingdon had doubled their lead, (after 20 minutes lots of teams would have dropped their heads and started giving up BUT NOT CUMNOR) the whole team kept battling away and were finally rewarded when DOM finished off a nice through ball from JAMIE 2-1(25mins) the game was very end to end and a great contest and it was Cumnor who got the equaliser just before halftime when DOM twisted and turned inside the area and then coolly with the outside of his foot curled the ball inside the far post 2-2 GAME ON! HT.

The second half started with GEORGE M having to slot into the right back position due to SCOTT who'd had a great first half coming off the with an injury and JAMIE going to the left back position, Cumnor again started the half well and were looking to take control of the game the defence were looking comfortable with CAM, JOHN,JAMIE, GEORGE M and GEORGE D playing really well and making some great tackles and clearing the ball effectively, Cumnor then took the lead when HARRY'S corner was headed home by DOM for his and Cumnors third, with still 20 minutes left to play Cumnor were going to have to show not only character but real strength....RONAN was having a great match in the middle of the park and COOKIE was doing his normal battling job, MATTHEW came on and chased up and down the right wing effectively and ADAM's distribution from the area was becoming more and more effective, and then HARRY smashed a free-kick off the bar and DOM hit the post with the follow up, Cumnor were looking to build on their lead  and when DOM turned and shot from fully 20 yards out it looked like job done BUT again the ball hit the post and again was cleared, Abingdon then won a free-kick on the left hand side of the box, the ball was swung in to the area but cleared by the Cumnor defence only to be put back in and then turned in!!! the linesman flagged for offside but apparently Cumnor had a invisible player stood on the line!!!!!!!!!!(it's the refs finalcall)3-3, with 5 minutes left Cumnor were still looking to win the game and when a foul on HARRY was committed MEHMET swung in the resulting free-kick and DOM turned the ball in for the winner (78 mins)  for much celebrations both on and off the pitch to start. FT 3-4.

What can I say about the display of all the boys today a fantastic all round performance from everybody, all parents and the Cumnor management  should be (and are)very proud of the boys.

Man of the Match:- DOM Four great goals and for causing so much trouble for the Abingdon defence

n.b After being coach/manager of this great little team for 8 seasons I can proudly say that was our best ever result/ performance A VERY BIG WELL DONE TO EVERYONE INVOLDED.(Mark)

12-10-14               B&B CUP      ST EDS  1  v  CUMNOR MINORS  0

After yet another no show from the ref!! Ian kindly stepped in to take charge of this B&B cup game.

In a tight first half both teams had chances to take the lead with St Eds hitting the crossbar and Cumnor keeping the St Eds goalkeeper busy, with both teams making claims for penalties the score remained 0-0 at the half time break.
In the second half the game remained a tight affair with Cumnor having the lions share of the possession and with both DOM and MATT having half chances to score......BUT it was St Eds who broke the deadlock with a through ball that caught the Cumnor defence of their guard and was finished off by rounding the keeper and slotting the ball home, Cumnor kept pushing forward with WILL trying to create more chances for the forwards and JAMIE putting in some great crosses from the left side,BUT the final whistle went (what whistle!!!!!)and Cumnor had lost their first game of the season, FT 1-0.

The boys should take heart from this game they had most of the play and chances so can go into the league game against St Eds with real confidence and look to bounce back next weekend.

No Man of the match awarded but special mention to WILL,GEORGE M and RONAN

With thanks to Ian for refereeing the match

05-10-14                                CUMNOR MINORS  6  v  CROWMARSH COMETS  1

After a delayed kick off due to the refs taxi getting lost(I kid you not)Cumnor were looking to continue their impressive start to the season against the orange army of Crowmarsh.

Cumnor started the game very brightly and the early pressure paid off when DOM fired in from the edge of the area finishing off a great through ball from SCOTT, Cumnor continued to put the pressure on and a nice ball over the top from HARRY was finished off by a DOM lobbing the ball over the keeper and Cumnor were two up after 20 minutes.  Cumnor couldn't add to their tally after a succession of  corners in the first half (9 in total) but not managing to take any advantage of any of them Crowmarsh then came back into the game and ADAM made a couple of solid saves near the end of the first half to keep the score at 2-0.
At the start of the second half Cumnor were still looking to build on their lead with WILL now on to add more fire power upfront,BUT it was Crowmarsh who scored the next goal and it was game on, with 30 minutes left to play the next goal was going to be crucial, it was Cumnor who got it with a little help from the sidelines!!!!the ball being cleared from the Crowmarsh box hit the branches of a over hanging tree keeping the ball in play for HARRY then to cross the ball in for DOM to finish off with a diving header in to the corner of the net, subs were then made as Cumnor looked comfortable TOM added to score line when finishing off a cross from WILL and DOM got his 4th of the game with a sharp turn inside the area to fire home and then Cumnor wrapped a great victory when a ball in from MEHMET was headed home by a Crowmarsh player! Final Score 6-1.

Another great win,not the prettiest of games but the result is the most important thing and keeps our great start to the season going WELL DONE TO EACH AND EVERY PLAYER.

Man of the Match :- RONAN for a great battling display in midfield

Special mentions to GEORGE M,CAM and SCOTT all had a terrific match

With thanks to Adrian, Andy, Richard and Barry for helping set up before the Match and to Cameron Taylor for his 5 minute cameo as ref.

                                                         THANKS FOR THE ASSIST!

28-09-14                                   BLEWBURY  1  v  CUMNOR MINORS  11

After two great wins to start the season Cumnor were looking to carry on their winning streak with a away trip to unknown territory in very sunny Blewbury.

Cumnor started the game very strongly and it wasn't long before they broke the deadlock when HARRY ran through on goal and calmly slotted the ball home, two minutes later DOM finished off some nice build up play to fire home from the edge of the area and Cumnor were in total control of the game when HARRY muscled his way through to make it three and then COOKIE fired in from close range after a great run and cross from JAMIE for the fourth, Cumnor were in  control but still needed to concentrate as Blewbury were looking to catch them on the break, but Cumnor were looking to still build on their lead with  DOM,RONAN and JAMIE going close,HARRY then got his hatrick and and Cumnors fifth when a lovely ball over the top from GEORGE M (who was having a great game)found HARRY and again he finished the job,DOM slotted in Cumnors sixth and as the halftime whistle blew the Cumnor boys walk off for a well deserved drink/rest.

One of the management decided enough was enough and left the game at halftime!!!obviously 6-0 up wasn't good enough for him!!!! (Anyway well played GEORGE D for his first half performance)

Cumnor made some changes to personnel in the second half but still looked very much the better side BUT were caught when Blewbury scored a terrific goal shooting from the edge of the area and into the top corner of the net, Cumnor responded quickly when a shot from JAMIE from the edge of the area was parried and DOM followed in the rebound for his hatrick, two minutes later he got his forth when a shot from just inside the box went in off the post and Cumnor were not finished after a flying bicycle kick from HARRY that just went wide he fired in his fourth and Cumnors ninth when his shot from 30 yards flew into the net, with MATT and RONAN working tirelessly in midfield and both SCOTT,MEHMET and JOHN looking solid at the back with ADAM making a great save to keep Blewbury at bay and it was CAM who made it double figures with his shot from the edge of the area found the net and TOM rounded off a great win for the boys with a angled finish for Cumnors eleventh goal of the game.FT.1-11

Another terrific performance from the boys A BIG WELL DONE TO THEM ALL........bring on the Crowmarsh!!!!!

Man of the Match :- GEORGE M   A terrific all round game

21/09/2014 Summertown Spartans 1 Cumnor Minors 5

Another great early autumnal day for football saw Cumnor face up to the newly formed Summertown Spartans.  The game started much as last week.  Cumnor dominated territory and possession with some good-looking passing football but couldn't quite provide the final touch.  Nice moves around the box but no-one could quite finish it off and their keeper was making things difficult.  The pressure continued and eventually paid off.  Dom got the ball facing one way, turned round 180 degrees - pirouetted I think they say   - and blasted it in on his right from the edge of the box. 1-0.  Another lovely ball in from Jamie found Dom with only their keeper to beat but he managed to keep us out. Cam came close with a shot that narrowly missed the left post.  Cumnor had had all the pressure but Summertown then broke dangerously, only to run into a somewhat agricultural challenge from Scott. One supporter called it 'Uruguayan' in its sublety. The subsequent free kick cleared the bar.

Ronan came on for his Cumnor debut for Tom - and made himself strong in midfield, linking up well with the forwards.  The pressure continued.  Harry forced a fantastic top-corner save from their keeper from a free kick. Jamie covering the park then smothered a counter attack and back up the other end Cameron came close. Their defence continued to shut down our attacks but conceded a spate of corners.  Finally after five identical corners from Harry placed in just the right spot Dom managed to connect sweetly with one. 2-0.

The defensive line-up of George M. Scott, John and Mehmet looked strong and dealt with everything. towards the end of the half Mehmet got a bit of a clattering and swapped with George D.

After half-time the pattern continued.  A Jamie cross and a Cam first time shot didn't quite come off. Then another corner and Ronan's looping header hit the top corner of the bar.  Their keeper was having a great game - and our attacks kept him busy.

But the keeper had no chance for Dom's second, a shot which took a wicked deflection off a defender and sent him the wrong way.  3-0.  The attacks kept coming - a great through ball to Cam was saved when the keeper rushed out.  A Harry free kick perfectly placed sailed over their keeper but was dramatically headed off the line.  Cam connected with another Harry corner but sent it over. Ronan was making things happen in midfield, joining up well with Cookie and George M down the right.   Matthew was on up-front on the right and kept the pressure on their left-back.  Jamie was having a great game down the left - fast and strong.  Harry then found himself outside the area - got it on to his favoured left foot (has he got another one?) and curled a peach into the top corner to make it 4-0.  Soon after Tom pounced on a goal kick which didn't get far. He came back at the keeper, calmly slotting it home for the fifth.

Summertown weren't giving up - and as the half dragged on and in the long grass, Cumnor seemed to wilt and lose shape a bit.   A few attacks found the Cumnor attack offside/  Cumnor had managed to deal with everything that had come at them. And it looked like we might get away with a second clean sheet until a mix up between Adam and John let Summertown sneak in between and snatch a goal.   Mehmet back on - fancied his chances and hit a rocket over the bar from inside the box - whilst George M tried an up and under from forty yards.

The long-half came to an end.  Another strong and really promising to Summertown who never gave up and whose keeper had a blinder.  And to Ollie and Andy - a fine Cumnor lino double act.  Everyone played well but....

Man of the match - was Scott for a fine defensive performance....bring on the Blueberries.

PS Cameraman screwed up - er.. forgetting to put a card in his camera - so this weeks pictures are also from last week.

The first game of the new season - a sunny, early autumnal day in Faringdon and the team scrubbed up nicely modelling their new aqua marine (or is that cerulean blue?) strips.  Anyway it's a great colour because you can spot see the boys from a mile off.  Everyone looked up for it - and there were some really special haircuts on display.  The game started with the boys playing up hill into a bit of a wind.  But it didn't seem to put them off and they started to move the ball around well.    Cumnor were getting forward from the start playing some attractive football around the penalty area.   A rather vocal Cumnor supporter on the touchline felt it was all a bit 'tippy-tappy' but the rest of the crowd were rather enjoying the tips and the taps.  Mehmet and Harry were combining really well up the left, and making his Cumnor debut Will provided pace and options with George M and Dom up the right. Cumnor were camped in the Faringdon half.   The first goal game after Harry blootered it against the bar from close range, Dom headed the rebound and Tom tucked it in.  The chances started coming aplenty - Harry blasting over, Will running into the box and Tom hitting the post.   In their first real attack a free kick from Faringdon was deflected onto the bar. Cam and George M looked strong at the back setting Will off up the right, with John using his speed to clear up when Faringdon threatened to break.  Then the goals started to come - Harry's crosses were inch perfect. Dom slotted in the second.  Then Mehmet slipped in Tom for a delightful dink over the keeper - pure class 3-0.  Another two crosses from Harry found Dom for 4 and 5, Dom's hat-trick.  Everyone was pushing forward and there were some great passing moves.  Tom laid off the ball for Jamie to rifle in the sixth goal.  George M surged forward for a shot saved at the near post.   Then Harry yet again crossed with real precision - this time for Jamie to head home.   It had been a busy half with George D putting himself about in midfield.   Just after half-time playing with the slope Will burst through and blasted it through the keeper's hands to score on his debut and make it 8 .  Scott also came on to make his debut in the second half and played with real strength and quality at right back. And Matthew attacked with purpose further up the field and came close to scoring.  With everyone pushing up, Faringdon were starting to pose more of a threat, and having had little to do, Adam was called into action in a one-on-one to pull off a save.  The management started to rotate the subs, providing some interesting combinations.  Jamie was strong attacking down the left and Will's speed was causing trouble and he had a few chances but found the net a bit elusive. Then Harry's eighth penetrating cross of the game found Cam fully extended sliding in at the far post to score. Will then burst through again and beat the keeperand this time slotted

home his second.  And finally to round off a strong first game Will and Tom combined for goal 11.   Respect to Faringdon who kept going to the end.  Thanks to Ollie for forcing himself out of bed after a late-night out to run the line.  A convincing performance, a clean sheet and a great start to the season. Come on you cerulean blues!

Man of the match:  Jamie 'The Quiff' Taylor

Game four v  Charlton B Lose 1-0

After finishing top of the league of 7 and playing some great football, Cumnor have to play the team that finished 4th Kingston Colts in the semi-final!!

Semi-Final Result 0-0.................... Kingston win on penalties 3-2!!!!

This was very hard for the boys to take after playing some terrific football throughout the tournament and scoring some great goals it was a real shame that the  team didn't even make it to the final and get what they deserved, scoring 12 goals and conceding only 1 was a real reflection on how they dominated most games and looked by far the best team here  BUT yet again lady luck didn't smile on them and the boys can only reflect on what should have been.....WE WILL BE BACK!!!!!

n.b.......... Kingston won the final

11-05-14                                ST EDMUNDS  0    v    CUMNOR MINORS  6

After the disappointment of Wednesday evening Cumnor were looking to finish the season on a high with an away match at St Eds who themselves have been struggling all season.

Cumnor started the match looking more solid and scored the first goal after only 4 minutes when DOM ran through on goal to score, he then made it two nil after 15 when running through on goal again, five minutes later he had his hatrick when a through from HARRY was finished nicely in the bottom corner,TOM then added to the score firing in from just inside the box and Cumnor were in total control of the game looking dangerous every time they had the ball and finished the half off scoring their 5th and the goal of the game when HARRY put in a pinpoint accurate cross in to the area for DOM to leap and head in to the corner of the net.....HT  0-5.
With some changes to positions for second half Cumnor were still looking to add to their tally, but both DOM and CAM hit the post (how many times this season?)before HARRY crossed for CAM to tap in and make it 6-0,with JAMIE,HARRY,GEORGE,MATT,CAM,COOKIE and TOM all causing the St Eds defence problems Cumnor were also determined to keep a clean sheet (their first of the season) and some great defending from MEHMET,JOHN,GUY,,DOM and with a great save from ADAM in the last 5 minutes they managed it and had won the final game of the season comfortably by 6 goals to 0.

A great end to the season with a terrific performance, there is no way this team deserves to finish 7th in the league with a little bit more luck and determination we could have finished so much higher, but with a tremendous second half to the season we can really push on next year IF we keep the team and team spirit together, WELL DONE BOYS YOU SHOULD BE PROUD OF YOURSELVES.

Man of the Match:- DOM for 4 terrific goals and a solid performance at the back
special mention to HARRY for yet another 4 assists
Vincent Kompany celebrates Cumnors great win!!!!(and maybe something else!!)

07-05-2014                                   CUMNOR MINORS  4  v   DRAYTON WASPS  5

After a very busy weekend away Cumnor were up against a determined Drayton side who themselves have blown hot and cold all season, this was always going to be a close affair!

Cumnor got off to there traditional slow start  when conceding two early goals and were now after only 10 minutes chasing the game, CAM did pull a goal back after 20 minutes when firing in from the edge of the area and Cumnor were back in the match, BUT just before half-time conceded again and went into break  two behind...... HT 1-3.
Cumnor had to put a stop to the Drayton forward who was causing all the damage, HARRY and DOM dropped in at the centre of defence and 5 minutes later TOM finished superbly when cutting in from the left to fire home, Cumnor were now pushing for the equaliser JAMIE came close when shooting just wide, but unfortunately Cumnor were caught on the break and were again two behind, still very much in the game  a ball over the top from HARRY and CAM latched onto it to make it 3-4 with 10 minutes still left to play the game could have gone either way but Drayton grabbed the next goal on a close offside call(unlike like the opposition lino at least ANDY/IAN wont have a stiff arm today!!!!!) the game was over, but Cumnor did manage score in the last minute(DOM) but didn't have enough time to even get the ball back and had lost the match by 4 goals to 5.

The boys slow start made life very difficult for themselves and Draytons forward was a force and unfortunately they couldn't handle him,but should take heart that they kept plugging away and gave Drayton a real game, the boys will be more than determined to make up for this when they play their last game of the season on sunday at St Eds.

Man of the Match :- MATTHEW for never giving up
Special Mentions to DOM for battling away all match and ADAM for a couple of great saves keeping us in the game.

                                                             I  SAY NO MORE!!!!!!!

05-05-14                                         CMFC U14S TOUR OF BOURNEMOUTH

THE TEAM:-  Harry(capt),Jamie,Dom,George D,Cookie,Mehmet,Cam,Adam,and guest players Herbie,Ben C,and Ben H.
All games were played over 32mins.......
03-05-14   v  Branksome ( local 1st div winners)   result   L 5-0
Against a team full of giants Cumnor really stood no chance and battled well but fell to their first defeat of the t'ment.
03-05-14  v Cheshunt ( another highly ranked team and the final event winners) After keeping the score to 0-0 at half-time eventually pressure told and Cumnor lost  2 goals to 0.
03-05-14   v  Woking Cougars (with half the town supporting the various teams they had brought and yet another league winner) A very tough match BUT Cumnor did manage to score their first goal of the t'ment(CAM) but lost 6-1.
04-05-14  v Kings Park ( local B league winners) Cumnor should count themselves unlucky not to get something from this game and had much the better of the first half but in the endlost by 1 goal to 0.
04-05-14  v  Bookham (mid table team..... maybe a chance!!!!) Cumnor took an early lead(DOM) and were unlucky not to go in at half-time leading but ADAM gets pushed over and they equaliser,(apparently this is OK!!!!)after then going behind in the second half Cumnor get a much deserved equaliser in the last minute when a long ball over the top from HARRY was finished off beautifully by DOM,much celebrating was then had......OUR FIRST POINT.....YES!!!!!!  FT 2-2.  WELL DESERVED.

A very difficult Tournament but the boys gave their best and should be very proud of themselves, everybody played their part.

As for the rest of the weekend then with the sun shinning Bournemouth seafront was a great location for tea on Saturday  followed by both cricket and football on the beach with ice creams after, and a few beverages at the holiday park club in the evening(adults only),with outdoor swimming on sunday(heated pool)a competitive game of water polo and the tea outside on the grass area of our caravans with the boys then collecting their well earned medals from guest presenter Harry Redknapp.
All in all the boys had a really good time with everybody getting really well and the team spirit high even tough the football didn't go that well, big thanks to Richard Bradley who joined in with everything and Ian and Lynne(and me Mark) who also made the weekend a complete success.

27-04-14                                  CUMNOR MINORS  9   v   KENNINGTON  3

After a four week lay off with Easter hols etc, Cumnor were looking to get back to winning ways with a home game against Kennington who have been struggling for form all season.

Cumnor got off to a very slow start and conceded the first goal after only 1 minute, (maybe this wasn't going to be as easy as the boys were thinking) they did get themselves back into the match after 5 minutes when GUY was shoved in the back in the box and HARRY converted the spot kick, Cumnor  had chances to take the lead but the post and missed opportunities came and went and it was Kennington who restored their goal advantage and 5 minutes later went 2 goals clear(1-3) Cumnor needed to make the most of their possession and a corner from HARRY was headed into the roof of the net by JAMIE.3 minutes later the equaliser came when another corner from HARRY was this time headed home by DOM, Cumnor were now well on top and GEORGE M drove in a  long distant shot that was well saved by the keeper and HARRY crashed a free-kick against the bar.....HT 3-3.
Cumnor made no changes to personnel for the start of the second half and from the KO were on the front foot making lots of chances, hitting the post again and the Kennington goal keeper making some great saves, but eventually Cumnor got their 4th goal when DOM ran on to a trough ball from MEHMET and rounded the keeper to slide the ball in to the empty net, MATTHEW then came on for GUY and Cumnor then scored their 5th on 55 minutes when another corner from HARRY was headed again in to the net by JAMIE,CAM then made it 6 on 60mins,  HARRY got the 7th on 62mins,DOM got his hatrick and Cumnors 8th on 65mins and HARRY finished off the job by bagging his third and Cumnors 9th on 68. FT 9-3.

A great win for the boys, each and everyone of them kept going the whole game and very much deserved this comprehensive victory......lets finish the season on a high a carry this performance on to the final two games of the season...WELL DONE LADS.

Man of the Match:  TOM for great all round performance
Special Mentions to HARRY,DOM and JAMIE all of whom had a terrific game.
                                                            x 9.........GREAT STUFF!!

30-03-14                                     CUMNOR MINORS  3  v  SUMMERTOWN STARS  4

With Cumnor coming into the game with three back to back wins confidence was at high BUT with three key players missing from the starting line up the match against Summertown was always going to be a tricky one!!

Summertown started the game the quicker of the two teams but without really troubling MEHMET who was playing in goal for the absent ADAM and it took until 17 minutes when the deadlock was broken and the stars had the lead, Cumnor were restricted to long range efforts and weren't causing the Summertown defence to many problems and just before halftime the stars double their lead when the forward lobbed the keeper....HT 0-2.
No changes were made to the Cumnor team at the start of the second half (mainly because we had no subs), but Cumnor did get a break when a long range effort from DOM was spilled by the keeper and Cumnor were back in the game, with the boys giving everything tiredness was starting to creep in and with GUY and GEORGE D struggling with knocks Cumnor were very much up against it and Summertown took full advantage and scored two quick goals on 46 and 50 mins, MEHMET made a couple of great saves to keep Cumnor in the game and with 10 minutes remaining TOM slotted the ball past the keeper to give the boys some hope and with 5 minutes left HARRYS through ball set up CAM to make it 3-4, Cumnor then threw everything at Summertown with all the players giving 100% effort in the final minutes BUT time unfortunately ran out and the game was lost..FT 3-4.

Considering our regular GK, Left back and Right midfielder were missing this was a brave and great effort from the boys all credit to them for giving it their best shot and at 4-1 down not giving up, with a full strength team available this result could have and probably would have been a different!!!!

Man of the Match :- GEORGE M with a never say die attitude.....a captains performance.

Our guest Referee today..........Howard Webb or was it Paul Lyons???!!!

23-03-14                          CUMNOR MINORS  5  v  MILTON UTD  1

With two wins on the bounce Cumnor came into the game with real confidence and were hoping to give Milton a team who having been flying high all season a real game!!

From the off Milton attacked and CAM made a great goal saving tackle to prevent them from taking a early lead and Cumnor were under a lot of early pressure......BUT from Cumnors first attack DOM won a free kick, HARRYS attempt was turned round the post and and from the resulting corner DOM rose at the back post to head home, 1-0 Cumnor, Milton kept up the pressure but again it was Cumnor who got the goal when a throw from MEHMET fell nicely to COOKIE to steer home 2-0!!Cumnor then were three up when DOM drilled in a free-kick into the bottom of the net, Cumnor conceded a goal just before halftime when failing to clear a long throw into the box, the halftime whistle went and the Cumnor boys were very much holding their own and playing great, HT 3-1.
With only one change to the team for the start of the second half Cumnor started on the ascendancy with both CAM,WILSON and HARRY all going close, and with the defence of GEORGE M,JOHN,MEHMET and DOM looking very solid and restricting Milton to long range efforts and they made their pressure count when HARRY drifted in to the box and shot past the keeper to make it 4-1, with all the midfield battling away  GUY,JAMIE,COOKIE and HARRY not giving Milton a chance to create anything Cumnor nearly made it five when MEHMET smashed a 30 yard shot against the bar, with WILSON chasing upfront and causing the Milton defence problems and late appearances from MATTHEW and TOM Cumnor were seeing the game out comfortably and rounded off a great display by scoring a fifth when HARRY swung in a corner for DOM to guide into the net and grab his hatrick.......FT  5-1.

A fantastic all round team performance, last we are getting the results we deserve,      WELL DONE LADS

Man of the Match:-  MEHMET for a great defensive display and supporting of the midfield

A 5-1  VICTORY.......................WE LOVE IT!

16-03-14                               ROTHERFIELD RATTLERS  2  v  CUMNOR MINORS  4

After Cumnors great win against Grove the week before they were looking to carry that form on and follow it up with another good performance at Rotherfield.

On this beautiful sunny morning both teams  were trying to get a grip on the game(which wasn't easy on a very hard and bouncy pitch) but it was Cumnor who got the first goal when a through ball from HARRY was latched onto by DOM to finish past the advancing keeper,Rotherfield were looking to catch Cumnor on the break with the ball over the top but both JOHN and CAM were keeping them at bay and on 15 minutes Cumnor got their second when yet again a through ball from HARRY was finished off by DOM and  it was 3 when DOM returned the favour to HARRY when his cross was hit in the corner of the net on the half volley from the edge of the area,Rotherfield were still trying to get back into the game and ADAM made a great save to prevent them from doing so HT 0-3.
Some changes to personnel were made to the side and Cumnor started the second half really well...chances came and WENT and it wasn't until a short corner from HARRY laid to MEHMET who smashed the ball into the net from just inside the area...4-0 and game over!!!!!!!!!!!
Rotherfield pulled a goal back with 8 minutes to go and the scored another with 3 minutes left on the clock but Cumnor saw time out and had won the match and for the first time this season had back to back league wins........FT 2-4.

A good win for the boys on not the easiest of playing surfaces, although with the amount of chances Cumnor had this could and probably should have been a more convincing scoreline.

Man of the Match:- ADAM for a great save in the first half and some solid handling yet again.

Special Mentions to- COOKIE,GEORGE M,JOHN and HARRY all had a terrific match

09-03-14                            CUMNOR MINORS  5     v      GROVE   3

The first home game for Cumnor for over five months and with the sun shinning  they were looking to bounce back in style after the disappointment of the previous match and give Grove a real test.

Playing 4-1-3-2 Cumnor started the game well and put the early pressure on the Grove defence BUT it was Grove who grabbed the first goal after 10 minutes, the game was very end to end and Cumnor got the equaliser when a trough ball from MEHMET was latched onto by TOM who calmly slid the ball past the on rushing keeper, the game still stayed very tight for both teams until a long ball over the top again from MEHMET was headed in by DOM, (2-1 Cumnor ) two minutes later Grove got leveller when a shot from 25 yards sailed into the top corner of the net giving ADAM no chance and then they took the lead on the stroke of halftime ........HT 2-3.
Cumnor started the second with the same formation only with GUY dropping into the midfield replacing GEORGE D, and CAM going upfront swapping positions with DOM.
Cumnor started the second well and got their deserved equaliser when CAM turned and shot into the corner of the net, Cumnor were putting a lot of pressure on the Grove defence and came close again when TOM shot hit the crossbar, with the midfield of JAMIE,HARRY,COOKIE and GUYand later MATTHEW  working really hard at both ends of the pitch it was of no surprise when CAM lobbed the keeper from inside the box to make it 4-3 to Cumnor, the defence of JOHN, GEORGE M,MEHMET and DOM were looking strong and clearing everything with ADAM calmly coming out and collecting all through balls, on 63 minutes CAM completed his hatrick when HARRY crossed the ball from the right for him to finish, GEORGE D then came on for a late cameo and Cumnor safely saw the game out to record a great victory FT 5-3.

Man of the Match:- TOM for his best all round performance and a great a goal

A terrific all round performance by the whole team and a much deserved victory................ .......TEAM SPIRIT WINS THE DAY!!

02-03-14           Cup qtr final               OX BLACKBIRDS  7  v   CUMNOR MINORS  1

The first game for a month and up against a very big and very competitive Blackbirds team this was going to be a test of  character for the Cumnor boys.

Playing against the wind in the first half Cumnor held on well and gave as good as they got restricting Blackbirds to long range efforts of which ADAM was more than comfortable with, but the Blackbirds did get the breakthrough on 17 minutes and soon after doubled their lead and then went three up after 25 minutes,BUT Cumnor did pull a goal back when JAMIE forced himself into the area and fired into the roof of the net from a tight angle,HT 3-1.
Cumnor had the wind behind them in the second half but couldn't really take advantage and were restricted to two long range efforts by HARRY and DOM in the whole half while the Blackbirds kept the pressure on at the other end and added to their tally by scoring further goals in the 40th,48th,65th and 68th minutes of the game to make the final score 7-1........... and end Cumnors cup dreams!!!!!

The boys put in 100% effort against a team who will probably go on to the final of the cup and end up in the A league next season, lets try keep positive.

Man of the Match:-  JOHN for solid game in the heart of the defence.
Special Mention to ADAM if it wasn't for some super saves the result could have been a lot worse.

                                               THE CUP DREAM IS SHATTERED!!!!!

02-02-14                 2nd rd Cup        CUMNOR MINORS  1  v   ROTHERFIELD VIPERS  0

After the past two weeks of disappointing postponements it was back to playing footy and another cup game against mid table B league team Rotherfield Vipers, the game being played at Westminster due to the Closes being waterlogged and with the absence of CAM this would be a difficult test!!!

Cumnor started with a 4-4-2 formation and had most of the possession in the first 10 minutes and came close to opening the score when TOM fired over, Rotherfield were gradually getting more and more into the game and were looking to catch Cumnor on the break....but the back four of JAMIE,GEORGE M,JOHN and MEMHET were looking very solid and not letting anything get past them,It was a midfield battle with both teams forwards having no luck up front and at halftime it was stalemate (0-0).
In the second half Cumnor switched their formation to 4-5-1 with the hope of winning the battle in midfield and catching Rotherfield out on the break, with MATT,GUY,COOKIE,GEORGE D and HARRY battling away in midfield the game was still very tight with ADAM restricted to saving the odd long range effort of which he handled very well, then on 55 minutes the break through and it was Cumnor who got it,GUY wriggled his way through the midfield played a nice ball to JAMIE who fed HARRY on the left hand side who then fired in a shot across the goalkeeper and in to the top corner of the net..........1-0, two minutes later Cumnor had a free-kick on the edge of the area of which HARRY took BUT the goalkeeper saved and no one could capitalise on the rebound so the ball was cleared and the chance had gone.
With DOM now dropping in to the back and WILSON and TOM coming back onto the pitch Cumnor were looking to hold on to their lead, the vipers came close with a couple of minutes left on the clock BUT Cumnor held on to clock up a great win and progress through to the quarter final of the cup for the second year running,                        WELL DONE BOYS.

A great win for the boys with the team spirit on a high the rest of the season looks very promising!!

Man of the Match:- HARRY a great all round performance finished off with terrific strike for the winning goal.

12-01-14                              1st rd Cup      BOTLEY   1   v   CUMNOR MINORS   4

The first game back after the Christmas break and Cumnor were starting with a away trip to Botley in the cup and their first step towards Wembley(sorry I mean Abingdon Town) in the cup, and were very much hoping to start the second half of the season in a winning way.

Cumnor starting the game with DOM and HARRY upfront and CAM dropping into the centre half position, Cumnor started the game well and a long ball from the midfield was pounced upon by DOM who put Cumnor one up and three minutes they doubled their lead when a shoot from HARRY fell nicely for DOM to poke in from close range, Botley were looking dangerous on the break and did pulled a goal back on 20 minutes, but Cumnor won a corner straight from the resulting kick off and JAMIE swung  in a lovely kick for DOM to head home his and Cumnors third, and just before the break WILSON had a shot from inside the area which GUY turned in and Cumnor had a 4-1 lead.HT.

In the second half changes to the team were made and with the pitch turning into a mud bath it was going to be a hard slog, and everybody did their bit with the defence and goalkeeping of birthday boy ADAM,and GEORGE D,GEORGE M,CAM and JOHN/DOM holding firm and all the midfielders of MEMHET,JAMIE,MATT,GUY/COOKIE ploughing there way through the mud to try and create chances for the front two of TOM and HARRY, the game finished with Cumnor victorious by 4 -1, covered in mud the boys trudged off the pitch happy to start the year with a win.                    WELL DONE TO THEM ALL.

A great way to start the New Year with a victory and here's hoping there are many more.

Man of the Match:- CAM for a great display in the centre of the defence.

                          22-12-13              FUTSAL T'MENT

Team:-Harry ,Mehmet, Tom, Wilson, Adam(guest player)

Are first Futsal tournament and the team were in a league of four,Chalgrove,Ox Blackbirds and North Leigh......................GAME ON!!!!!!!!!

First game v Chalgrove, with neither teams or managers really not sure about the rules the game started!!!, Cumnor started well and were in a 3 goal lead by half time, in the second half the game was end to end with more goals going in at both ends BUT Cumnor finished the winners by 6-3 with 5 goals from TOM and another from Wilson,a great start!!

The second match against the very big Ox Blackbirds boys!! Blackbirds scored early in the game but Cumnor restricted them to only the one goal and at half time were still in the game,HARRY then equalised early in to the second half BUT the Blackbirds who had to win the game to stay in the t'ment put on their VERY VERY BIG GUNS and scored 6 goals in the space of the final 6 minutes of the game ,FT a Loss by 7-1.

The third game Cumnor were ONLY up against North Leigh!!win and we are through lose and we are out, Cumnor gave everything in this game with goals from MEHMET,TOM,WILSON,with HARRY dropping into the goal and guest player ADAM YATES charging round the pitch Cumnor gave North Leigh a real game and had as many chances as them BUT lost the game 6-3,and were out!

A enjoyable experience for both players,Managers and Parents, although the rules of the game seemed to change from match to match! but still a very well done to all of the boys who took part..

15-12-13                              CROWMARSH COMETS  2   v    CUMNOR MINORS  0

Our last game in 2013 and both management, players and parents were hoping we could finish on a high with a trip into unknown territory against Crowmarsh (Wallingford)!!!!!!!!!

Playing on a postage stamp/allotment!!,sorry..... I mean a small pitch, the game started with Cumnor playing 4-1-4-1 which seemed to be quite successful in their last match, the match started as very much a midfield battle with neither team really getting a foot hold in the game and both teams were being restricted to a few half chances, only Cumnor going close with a scramble in the box which didn't fall for them(surprise, surprise) and Crowmarsh cleared the danger, the half time whistle blew and both teams felt this game was very much up for grabs.

The second half started with Cumnor making their inevitable three changes to personnel and change of formation!!Nothing much changed in the second half with no really clear chances, that was until a free-kick was squeezed in at the near post by Crowmarsh and the home team were ahead,2 minutes later it was 2-0 when a shot from just inside the area found the corner of net, Cumnot tried to get back into the game with a couple of good chances which they couldn't convert and then CAM hit the post but there was no follow up and Cumnor had lost the game.  FT 2-0.

Cumnor have played a lot better than this and maybe the pitch/late arrivals and late nights had something to do with it!!!!!!!!!!, and a ref who awards free kicks for shoulder BARGING but not for studs very high!!!(check out DOMS leg for evidence)............. AM I BITTER?..............YEP.

Man of the Match:- George M  For another great defensive display and a real captains performance

Lets all look forward to a New Year with positive results and more great team spirit.

cheers and Happy Christmas to you all.

Above ................    A Christmas gift idea for some of our parents!!(only joking)

01-12-13                                   HINKSEY PARK   6    v    CUMNOR MINORS   3

After a gritty draw last weekend in a game Cumnor felt they could and probably should have won, today they were up against a team with a 100% record and a very good side.....BUT playing positively and keeping their heads up, you never know is a funny old game!!

Cumnor started the game with a 4-1-4-1 formation and started very brightly seeing a lot of the ball and nearly got the first goal when a shot from COOKIE was blocked and HARRY then clipped the bar with the follow up, the Cumnor defence were keeping Hinksey at bay and very much restricting them upfront and then scored the first goal when a corner from JAMIE was headed home by DOM, five minutes later JAMIE fired in a great shot from the edge area and Cumnor were two up,things got even better when from a corner COOKIE hit a volley into the net.....3-0 with 23 minutes on the clock (who's the top team here???),Cumnor did have a couple more chances to increase their lead and the midfield of TOM,HARRY,COOKIE, JAMIE and GUY were giving everything and fighting for every ball, but it was Hinksey who grab a goal back just before half time and we went in at halftime 3-1 up.
Cumnor made no changes to personnel in the second half and again were keeping Hinksey restricted to only half chances, BUT after a couple of changes to the team Cumnor lost two quick goals and were suddenly were hanging on and looking venerable and were caught again and AGAIN when letting sloppy goals in found themselves 5-3 down with 10 minutes to go, still Cumnor looked to get themselves back into the game and CAM squeezed a shot in from a tight angle but the ball bounce off the post and was cleared away(sums up the season so far) because 30seconds later Hinksey made it six.....and the game was over!!FT 6-3.

What can I say,..... A game of two halves!!!that is an understatement with the boys playing absolutely brilliantly in the first half and looked by far the better of the two teams, and really didn't deserve the final score line BUT must keep their heads up and be positive throughout the whole game, there are lessons to be learnt for them/us all...............Football sometimes not that funny,is it!!!!!!!
Man of the Match:-George M for a solid performance at the back.
