15-09-2013 MILTON UNITED 5 v CUMNOR MINORS 2
The first game of a new season and with three new signings and three players carrying injuries plus playing a team with lots of new A league players this was going to be a tough start!!
With a strong wind blowing in to their faces Cumnor got off to a bad start when conceding the first goal of the game after only 2 minutes ,but bounced back 3 minutes later when DOM hit a great free kick from 25 yards in to the net. Cumnor now had the bit between their teeth and created some chances, the goalkeeper made a fine save from HARRY and MEHMET hit the post from the edge of the area, but Cumnor were made to pay when Milton made it 2-1 after 17mins,the boys kept battling well with MATTHEW chasing balls upfront and WILSON busying about in midfield they were very much still in the game...........even when Milton scored their 3rd from a free-kick just before half time. HT 3-1.
The second started with some changes of personnel with JOHN making his impressive debut at the back and GEORGE D slotting in at left back, unfortunately Cumnor conceded again but yet again bounced straight back when HARRY won and scored a penalty 4-2 after 43mins,Cumnor really didn't take advantage of the wind behind their backs playing some good football at times but not really creating any clear opportunities ,Milton then scored their 5th on 62mins but Cumnor kept pushing forward and with JAMIE and GEORGE M working well in midfield, they could still get back into it!!
The Milton keeper and ADAM made some good saves to keep the score down but time ran out for Cumnor and had lost their first game of the season 5-2............BUT this was a good performance against a team who will be up there at the end of the season as I'm sure we will be,roll on next week.
Well done to all of the boys who never gave up and gave everything.
